Jarrow Formulas K-2 MK-7 composition:
1 serving, 1 soft capsule:
Vitamin K2 - 90 mcg - is best known for its role in the proper functioning of the blood clotting mechanism; however, research in recent years has shown that it also has beneficial effects on bone and circulatory health. Although calcium is essential for good health, its abnormal metabolism can lead to disorders such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. In bone tissue, vitamin K is crucial in the formation of a normal, strong bone matrix. Bone quality depends on the presence of adequate vitamin K. Studies have also shown that even small amounts of vitamin K2 combat heart disease by controlling calcium-regulating proteins in vascular tissue, keeping calcium out of the arteries and preventing the formation of dangerous calcified plaques. Vitamin K is needed for the production in the liver of prothrombin (factor II) which plays the most important role in blood clotting. Other clotting factors (VII, IX, X) produced in the liver also require the presence of vitamin K. With deficiencies of prothrombin or any of these factors, the blood clots slowly or not at all and even a small cut can cause prolonged bleeding. Vitamin K2 is also the most biologically active form of vitamin K. It also has the most beneficial effect on arterial health.
