NowFoods Ashwagandha 450 mg 90 caps beat stress
Now Foods Ashwagandha is a dietary supplement containing Vitania sluggard root extract (commonly known as Ashwagandha) standardized for its bioactive substances - vitanolides.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) - a medicinal plant used in traditional Eastern medicine; it is called Indian ginseng due to its adaptogenic properties, i.e. increasing the body's resistance to stress factors, stabilizing mood and regulating the functioning of the immune system. In Ayurveda, it is treated as a cure for rheumatism, states of exhaustion, impotence and memory weakness. It contains many biologically active substances, including nicotinic alkaloids, beta-sitosterol, vitanolides (including vitanolides D), coumarins, sitoindosides, chlorogenic acid and vitapherin A.
Properties of active ingredients
Vitanolides are pharmacologically active compounds with a typical steroid structure, naturally occurring in the root of this plant. Together with vitapherin A, they exhibit antioxidant, anti-stress, adaptogenic, sedative, anti-cancer, cytotoxic, blood pressure-lowering, tonic, brain-enhancing, neurotonic properties, sexually stimulating, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, antifungal (against Black Mildew, Candida albicans) and antimicrobial (against Staphylococcus aureus, Lasse senna, Escherichia coli, Blue Pus).
Ashwagandha is widely used as a tranquilizer, calming and bringing healthy sleep. It allows the body to adapt to stress factors, so that it returns to homeostasis, despite the impact of stressors. Restores a dysregulated body to normal functioning, despite poor diet, lack of sleep or physical or mental exhaustion.
Vitania sluggard is widely valued primarily for its mood-enhancing, anti-stress, anti-anxiety, antidepressant effects, improving adaptation to the environment, increasing self-confidence, extraversion and openness to new experiences. It owes its properties to its ability to sensitize serotonin (5-HT) receptors, so that the same amount of serotonin, by binding to a specific receptor, acts more strongly and efficiently, i.e. increases the frequency of nerve impulses in serotonergic pathways.
When is it worth using Ashwagandha?
Use in mental disorders
Numerous studies, experiments and practice confirm the anxiolytic (sedative), antidepressant and neuroprotective effects of vitania ashwagandha extracts, with no side effects or toxicity found. In one study, an alcoholic extract was used in patients suffering from anxiety neurosis. At the end of a month, most of the most unpleasant symptoms such as anxiety and social phobias had disappeared. Subsequent experiments have confirmed its usefulness for manic-depressive illness, alcoholic psychosis and schizophrenia.
Another experiment showed inhibition of the formation of peptide-like amyloid β in brain tissue, a major causative factor in Alzheimer's disease. Based on this, researchers speculate that sluggish vitania may have applications in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, as well as in the treatment of their symptoms.
Treatment of inflammatory joint conditions
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA, arthritis) is an inflammatory, chronic, and autoimmune rheumatic disease. It is characterized by the development of inflammation in the joints, combined with pain, swelling, stiffness and reduced mobility of the musculoskeletal system. It leads to destruction of cartilage tissue, joint deformity, contractures and impaired function, and ultimately is a frequent cause of disability, progressive disability and premature death.
A clinical study was conducted among 60 RA patients who were discontinued from all medications (including those in the NSAID group) and then given 14 grams per day (in two divided doses) of Ashwagandha root powder for 90 days. After treatment, there was a 93 percent reduction in joint stiffness, an 83 percent increase in handgrip strength, a 24 percent decrease in leukocyte counts (reducing the autoimmune response) and a 24 percent increase in serum iron levels. Based on this, researchers are positioning Vitania sluggard as a potential treatment for RA.
One study confirmed the antioxidant, detoxifying and anticancer effects of Vitania sluggard root extract. A 16-week supplementation effectively prevented tumor formation (fibrosarcoma) in mice, which was artificially induced by administration of 20-methylcholanthrene (a potent carcinogen).
Detoxifying the body
Ashwagandha has a beneficial effect on the function of internal organs, especially the kidneys and liver. One study confirmed its detoxifying properties in cases of carbendazim poisoning, which accumulates in the kidneys and liver and damages these organs. Administration of the powdered root after 48 hours almost completely cleared the body of this toxin.
Other properties of Ashwagandha:
- partially regenerates the loss of pigments in the hair, counteracts graying
- stimulates the function of the thyroid gland, counteracting hypothyroidism
- lowers blood glucose levels, anti-diabetic effect
- stimulates the immune system, i.e. increases phagocytosis and macrophage activity
- improves blood parameters (raises hemoglobin levels)
- regulates lipid profile (lowers cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and raises HDL)
- raises the level of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, increasing its concentration in the body
- promotes the activity of cytotoxic T lymphocytes
- supports bone structure by reducing calcium loss
Now Foods Ashwagandha is a dietary supplement recommended primarily for people living under constant stress, overworked, overtired, with sleep and mood problems. Due to a number of health-promoting properties, it has applications to support the cardiovascular system, the immune system and to improve thyroid function, blood parameters and lipidogram.
