Spirulina is a microscopic alga of the family of cyanobacteria. Like plants, they can produce energy from sunlight, thanks to the process called photosynthesis. The standard dose of spirulina is 1-3 grams, but doses of up to 10 grams per day are effectively used. It is extremely rich in nutrients and its action was appreciated even by cosmonauts. It is considered the most nutritious food in the world by its nutrients.

A single spoon (7 grams) of dried spirulina powder contains:

Protein: 4 grams.

Vitamin B1 (thiamine): 11% RDA.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): 15% RDA.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin): 4% RDA.

Copper: 21% RDA

Iron: 11% RDA.

It also contains decent amounts of magnesium, potassium and manganese, and small amounts of almost every other nutrient we need. The spirulina spoon contains a small amount of fat (about 1 gram), including omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a ratio of about 1.5: 1. The quality of protein in spirulina is considered to be excellent, comparable to chicken eggs.

It contains all the essential amino acids that our body needs. Spirulina has a beneficial effect on improving muscle strength and endurance. The studies have shown that spirulina increases muscle endurance, significantly extending training time and reducing fatigue.

Spirulina has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties:

Oxidative damage can destroy our DNA and cells. Such damage can lead to chronic inflammation that contributes to cancer and other civilization diseases. Spirulina is a fantastic source of antioxidants that can protect against harmful oxidative damage. The main active ingredient is phycocyanin. This antioxidant gives spirulina a unique blue-green color. The phycocyanin can fight free radicals and inhibit the production of inflammatory signal molecules, providing amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Spirulina can lower LDL and triglycerides:

Diseases of the circulatory system including the heart are currently the biggest problem in the world. It is known that many measurable factors, called risk factors, are associated with the risk of heart disease. As it turns out, spirulina has a beneficial effect on many of them. It effectively reduces total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and at the same time increases HDL cholesterol, the so-called good cholesterol.

Spirulina has anti-cancer properties, in particular against oral cancer:

Research suggests that spirulina may have anticancer properties. Spirulina was particularly well studied in terms of oral cancer. One study looked at the effect of spirulina on 87 people with pre-cancerous lesions called OSMF in the mouth. After applying 1 gram per day for 1 year, 45% of the spirulina group had complete regression of changes in the oral cavity, compared to only 7% in the control group. When they stopped taking spirulina, almost half of those responding to the algae observed an increase in these changes again in the next year.

Research shows that it can lower blood pressure:

High blood pressure is a quiet factor that causes many deadly diseases. They include heart attacks, strokes and chronic kidney disease. The dose of 4.5 g per day effectively reduces blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. It is believed that this is due to the increased production of nitric oxide, a signal molecule that helps to relax and dilate blood vessels.

Spirulina improves symptoms of allergic rhinitis:

Allergic rhinitis is characterized by inflammation in the nasal passages. It is caused by environmental allergens, such as pollen or animal fur. Spirulina is a popular alternative treatment for the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and there is evidence that it is an effective remedy for people struggling with this problem. In one study involving 127 people with allergic rhinitis, 2 grams a day significantly reduced symptoms such as watery discharge from the nose, sneezing, nasal congestion and itching.

Spirulina can be effective against the occurrence of anemia:

The most common symptom of anemia is characterized by a decrease in hemoglobin or red blood cells in the blood. Anemia is quite common in the elderly, leading to long-lasting feelings of weakness and fatigue. In a study of a group of 40 elderly people with anemia, the content of hemoglobin in red blood cells increased during spirulina supplementation.

Spirulina can help control blood sugar levels:

Studies have shown that spirulina can significantly lower blood sugar levels. In some cases, it achieves better results than popular diabetes medications. In a study of a group of 25 patients with type 2 diabetes, 2 grams of spirulina led to an impressive reduction in blood sugar levels. HbA1c, a marker of long-term blood sugar, decreased from 9% to 8%, which is significant. Studies estimate that a 1% reduction in this marker can reduce the risk of death associated with diabetes by 21%.

Dosage:

Dissolve 1 teaspoon in water or juice 1-3 times a day
